Why Choose DriveTreck Driving Academy?
+

DriveTreck is one of Metro Vancouver’s top-quality driving schools, known for a high first-time pass rate, instructors with strong reputations and great interpersonal skills, and a deep commitment to excellence in driver education. Our instructors are trained to the highest standards of educational quality and professionalism.

In addition, our founder, Shirley Sio has great experience in supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring an inclusive, respectful, and learner-centered experience for every individual. She also integrates guiding principles inspired by Indigenous Ways of Knowing—such as respect, responsibility, relational learning, and community awareness—to create a safe and meaningful learning environment for all students.

Along with ICBC, our founder helped develop the defensive driving curriculum for the Graduated Licensing Program (GLP) in alignment with ICBC standards. DriveTreck is an official registered ICBC business partner. (ICBC GLP schools)

We’re recognized by Vancouver School Board Trustees for our Road Safety Ambassador Program, empowering high-school students to become responsible, defensive drivers and reinforcing traffic-law knowledge and critical thinking.

We also provide Class 4 Unrestricted training supporting careers in public service (e.g., Corrections Officers). Our mission goes beyond road-test passes — we help build a safer, healthier, and more responsible driving community across Metro Vancouver.

How do I get a full licence in British Columbia?
+

If you’re coming from another country and do not have two years of full-privilege driving experience, you’ll need to complete the Graduated Licensing Program (GLP).

I’m moving to B.C. from another Canadian province. Do I need to take any tests?
+

If you’ve held a full-privilege licence for at least two years, you can exchange it for a B.C. Class 5 without taking the knowledge or road test.

If you cannot prove at least two years of full-privilege experience, you’ll need to enter the GLP.

How long do I have to switch to a B.C. licence after moving?
+

You must apply for a B.C. driver’s licence within 90 days of moving. Driving longer than 90 days without a B.C. licence can lead to an indefinite driving prohibition.

Moving & your licence — ICBC

I’m moving from outside Canada — how do I get a valid licence in B.C.?
+

If your country isn’t covered by an ICBC licence-exchange agreement, you must: pass a knowledge test and a road test, apply within 90 days of arrival, and provide proof of two years of full-privilege experience (e.g., official driving record). Licences not in English/French require an ICBC-approved translation.

Which countries allow licence exchange without testing?
+

ICBC has exchange agreements with all Canadian provinces/territories, most U.S. states, and several countries (e.g., Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea*, Switzerland, Taiwan*, the U.K., etc.). Where eligible and with 2+ years experience, you may exchange to Class 5 without tests. If your jurisdiction isn’t on the list, you’ll need to complete knowledge + road tests.

*Some exclusions apply (e.g., motorcycles). See ICBC’s current list for details.

What you’ll need generally:

  • Your valid out-of-province/foreign licence (and IDP if not in English).
  • Government ID (passport), proof of B.C. residency.
  • Proof of two years’ experience (official record).
  • Certified translation if not English/French.
  • Fees + vision test.

Need to cancel/reschedule your road test?
+

DriveTreck does not cancel ICBC tests for students. ICBC requires at least 48 hours’ notice to avoid a $25 late-cancellation fee. If you’re outside Canada/USA, call the driver-licensing line for help. If you require accessibility or language support, ICBC can assist.
