Questions About the ICBC Mock-Up Exam

What happens during the ICBC mock-up exam?
The session runs for three hours: two hours of warm-up practice followed by a full one-hour simulated ICBC road test. Your instructor acts like an examiner, scoring you on observation, control, and decision-making, just like the real test.
How close is this to the real ICBC road test?
It’s nearly identical. You’ll follow the same route types, timing, and scoring criteria ICBC uses. The goal is to experience the exact pressure and environment you’ll face on exam day.
Do I need to bring my own vehicle for the mock test?
You can bring your own insured, roadworthy vehicle or rent one through our Road Test Vehicle Booking service. All school vehicles meet ICBC safety and visibility requirements.
When should I take this course before my actual road test?
Most students book their mock exam 5–10 days before the real ICBC test. It gives enough time to review the feedback and schedule any final practice hours before the official exam.
Can I book extra lessons after my mock exam?
Absolutely. Many students add one or two Additional Hour sessions ($80/hr) after their mock test to refine specific areas like parking, merging, or hazard scanning before exam day.
Will I receive feedback after the mock exam?
Yes. Your instructor will review your full performance breakdown, covering key scoring areas like observation, control, decision-making, and ICBC-specific criteria. You’ll get targeted recommendations for what to improve before your real test.
Does the mock exam include pre-trip inspection practice?
Yes, your instructor will always include a pre-trip run-down according by our school policy that includes Class 7, Class 5L and Class 4 unrestricted and restricted.
What if I’m not ready for a mock exam yet?
If you’re still early in your lessons, we recommend focusing on Additional Hour sessions first. The mock exam is most effective once you can drive independently on test routes with minimal instruction.
Can I take more than one mock exam?
Definitely. Many students take two — one to identify weak points, and a second to confirm they’re truly ready. Consecutive mock exams help eliminate anxiety and build consistency.
How is scoring done during the mock exam?
Your instructor uses the official ICBC road test evaluation sheet. You’ll be graded on observation, lane discipline, speed control, hazard perception, and overall readiness — exactly like an ICBC examiner.
Can I request a specific instructor for my mock exam?
Yes. If you’ve been training with a specific DriveTreck instructor, we’ll do our best to schedule your mock exam with the same person for continuity and familiarity.
What happens if I fail the mock exam?
No worries — the goal isn’t to pass or fail but to pinpoint exactly what needs improvement. You’ll receive detailed notes and can immediately schedule targeted lessons to address those areas.
